Good ol’ Functional Mugs..

Continuing work @ BPG and was able to tag along with Barbara Curtis on a glaze firing. These are porcelain and a lot lighter than they look. I was speaking to another artist, about preferences regarding the lip. My preference when drinking from a mug is feeling something substantial, smooth and rounded. I do love the look of some of the pieces out there that are delicate and really thin, but I imagine danger of chipping and extra care as part of their upkeep.

Again, still working on my throwing skills, and playing with simple forms, attempting to balance the handle and how it fits the user and piece. At this stage of my development, I’m not one to spend too much time on detailed decoration on these small pieces. I’ll run a gesture of brush work to give it my own flair, but I tend to pour more of my expression in my larger pieces – which I’ll show at a later date.
